Zingerman’s 12 Natural Laws of Business May 26, 2014

This past week I attended a one day ZingTrain workshop led by Ari Weinzweig on “The Twelve Principles of Business.” Ari has a unique approach to doing business that should be universal. He has made it work with nine current companies and just added the tenth. Basically you start with a clear vision of where you are going, get good financing and treat staff as well as you want them to treat the customer and you are off and going.
What does this have to do with Deep Space Deep Ocean? To get to either place you are going to need vision. And support of others. I have seen too often how use of coercion to drive staff towards someone else’s goal fails. And not so often how shared vision and respect make the journey easieer, even if it is still a difficult one.
The most important break through I had was in the area of vision. I have been through a lot of trainings on mission/goals/vision. Some stuck, some did not. I associated vision with mushrooms. Others have it, I do not. Now I understand it, and I have it. You have to see where you are going so you can look back and see how you got there. So you start with the last part and the first part is easier. You need to start with your own personal vision, but when your endeavor, what ever it is, involves others, they need to be a part of creating and sharing that same vision.
And the bonus? Meeting and connecting with so many business owners and their staffs here in the Seacoast.
